Why do we celebrate palm Sunday
Palm Sunday
In the practice of Christianity, exactly a week before Easter Sunday, there was a movable feast that is called Palm Sunday. The event represents the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. It was mentioned in each part of the four canonical Gospel. It is considered the first day of Holy Week.
The feast was celebrated worldwide. In the Philippines, the Humenta or the statue of Christ riding a donkey was brought inside the church while people attending the mass will wave their palapas (made out of palm leaves). After the ceremony, people will bring home their palaspas and placed it in their altars.
